With a Best Western Hotels & Resorts to call home base, here are several must-sees in Missouri to add to your itinerary:

Go into town

Kansas City

Kansas City is a remarkable city. It straddles the Missouri-Kansas state line and offers a great mix of the two regions. This thriving city is robust with experiences from the arts to craft breweries. Visit the National WWI Museum and Memorial for a moving and humbling experience where you’ll interact with displays, watch thought-provoking films and hear eyewitness testimonies of the Great War.

St Louis

Exploring a city has never been more fun when you are in St. Louis. From the Gateway Arch to the Missouri Botanical Garden, but it’s a visit to the award-winning Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company that will surely be the highlight of your visit. These handmade artisan chocolates are made with care and attention – each creation being decorated by hand. Yum!

Springfield

Considered the “gateway to the great outdoors,” Springfield lives up to its reputation. Within reach are an array of parks, trails and rivers with big trips to Lake of the Ozarks State Park not too far. But if venturing outside isn’t your thing, Springfield offers plenty to do in the city, from the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame to exploring the historic C-Street in the city’s original downtown.

Get outside

Ha Ha Tonka State Park

This oddly named state park has plenty of activities to keep you busy, but it’s the remains of a vast 1905 European-style stone castle that is the shining star. With a history engulfed in tragedy, the ruins of this castle are all that is left, but what a powerful presence they still have.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Over 80 miles of lakefront views and more than 17,000 acres of land make up this ideal vacation destination. Climb, hike, fish or swim. Be sure to check out the Ozark Caverns, and try to catch a glimpse of bear claw marks, bats and the waterfall known as Angel Showers.

Things to do

  • There is something about visiting an author’s childhood home, especially one that left such a print on America’s history like Mark Twain. Located in Hannibal, Missouri, the Mark Twain Boyhood Museum is a delightful reflection on the author. Filled with personal artifacts to original Norman Rockwell oil paintings created for special editions of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, this museum has an encompassing introduction to Twain.
  • Dive to the center of the Earth at Bonne Terre Mine. Guests can choose to dive or boat, but either way, you’ll find yourself experiencing something beyond this world. Boat riders will experience this unique adventure above water level and hear about its origins. And divers will get an even closer look as they submerge underneath the water to show a world untouched.
