In honor of Earth Day, we’ve gathered some eco-friendly tips for sustainable travel while staying at one of our Best Western® Resorts and Hotels. Traveling sustainably is great for the environment, and there’s a few simple things you can do to make your environmental footprint smaller while you travel.

Bring your own water bottle

At Best Western® Resorts and Hotels, you will have access to water in the lobby, convenience store area (at select locations), etc. Instead of using paper cups repeatedly, bringing your own water bottle can reduce waste immensely, especially if you have more than one member of your family traveling with you.

Go paperless

Why not take advantage of living in a digital age? Request that your receipts be emailed to you, instead of printing paper copies. This will help reduce paper waste.

Stay at an eco-friendly hotel

While Best Western Hotels® and Resorts properties try our best to be eco-friendly, a few of our properties rise above the rest in going above and beyond in this area. Below are two hotel spotlights that guarantee an eco-friendly experience.

Best Western Plus Kamloops

Best Western Plus Kamloops

Best Western Plus Kamloops is an award-winning eco-friendly hotel. As a “4 Key Green Key” hotel, the hotel practices efficient geothermal heating, implements environmental policies, and recycling programs, and is one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly hotels in the Best Western Hotels® and Resorts portfolio. The hotel has rolled out a green towel program, provides biodegradable cutlery for breakfast, and donates all unused soap, shampoo, and conditioner to a nonprofit. In addition, there are two electric vehicle charging stations on the property.

Best Western Premier The Lodge On Lake Detroit

Best Western Premier The Lodge On Lake Detroit

Located on the shore of a beautiful Minnesota lake, Best Western Premier The Lodge on Lake Detroit is a sustainable, eco-friendly hotel in the Midwest. For years, the owners have been actively restoring and preserving the shoreline, culminating in the Rain Garden Lodge Project which was the biggest commercial planting of its kind in the state – using 4,000 indigenous perennials to protect the lake from run off. From eco-friendly wine to eco-friendly bath amenities, the hotel ensures that guests have a minimal environmental impact during their stay. And not only are all the rooms lakefront, but the hotel boasts the only day spa in Detroit Lakes, Spa Within, to help you look and feel your best.
