Simply hop on the I-10 to enter Joshua Tree National Park through the south entrance. Your first stop is the easy, but scenic Cholla Cactus Garden Nature Trail. The teddybear-like cholla spans 10 acres and, during a sunrise, offers spectacular panoramic views. Next stop is Barker Dam Nature Trail, an easy 1.1 mile loop. Monzogranite boulders of all shapes and sizes mix with the namesake Joshua trees, creating a rocky desert landscape that surprises you with the water from Barker Dam, which is one of the largest historic reservoirs that Joshua Tree National Park has to offer. Popular sites for photos also include Skull Rock and Arch Rock; both are found within nearby campgrounds, so parking is limited, but capturing the moment is worthwhile.

Enjoy views of the starry skies while also catching a flick with your crew at the nostalgic drive-in theater, Smith’s Ranch Drive-In. The eclectic saloon offers Wild West vibes and consistently appears as a must-do thing to do when visiting the Joshua Tree area.
