From festive menorah car parades and large-than-life dreidels to ice-skating rinks and Kosher-friendly events with latke bars and martinis, celebrating Hanukkah in the south is a community-focused, fun-filled time. Check out these three Southern Hanukkah celebrations.

Celebrating Hanukkah with Martinis, Games and More in Decatur, Georgia

Each year, Chabad Decatur hosts several Hanukkah events, including Menorahs and Martinis, a women’s outing where you’ll design your own granite menorah while enjoying martinis and good company.

Spread Hanukkah joy to the residents of a local senior center while you enjoy potato pancakes (latkes), doughnuts and make new friends.

Chabad Decatur also hosts a Jewish Havdalah service with beer. Join other members of the Jewish community for a festive event including menorah lighting, live music, a latke bar, appetizers and fun Hanukkah games.

The nearby town of Avondale Estates partners with Chabad Decatur to offer a public Hanukkah celebration, including an outdoor menorah lighting, latkes and doughnuts, and a family-friendly good time.

Annual Menorah Car Parade and More in Chattanooga, Tennessee

The Chabad Jewish Center of Chattanooga offers fun and festive events throughout the year and Hanukkah time is no different. Join them for Hanukkah on Ice, a lively event that includes a menorah car parade, outdoor skating rink at “Ice on the Landing” at the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo and more. Kosher refreshments are available and the event culminates with the public lighting of a giant menorah carved in ice.

Homestyle Festival of Lights and More in Birmingham, Alabama

A 15- by 21-foot menorah, a human-sized spinning dreidel and a Krispy Kreme–themed “Hot Sufganiyot Now” sign all add to the appeal at “Hanukkah House,” a private residence in Birmingham owned by the editor and publisher of Southern Jewish Life magazine.

The Birmingham Jewish Federation hosts a grand menorah lighting at the Summit, featuring music, balloon artists, a stilt walker, a bubble show, Hanukkah foods and more. And around the last night of Hanukkah each year, Chabad of Alabama hosts a festive menorah car parade through the streets of Birmingham.
