Experience the hustle and bustle of Nebraska’s cities, hear the bird’s whistles and leaves rustling as you hike along a scenic trail or get down with history and see what 19th-century pioneering was all about. Make no mistake; Nebraska will surprise and delight in every way.

With a Best Western to call home base, here are several must-sees in Nebraska to add to your itinerary:

Go into town

Grand Island

Grand Island has a lot to offer; breweries, museums, festivals, and more. Finding something to do isn’t an issue. Whatever you do, one thing is a must; watch the sandhill cranes’ spring migration. Every spring, one million sandhill cranes converge on the Platte River as they migrate north. It’s breathtaking, magical, and majestic. Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience.

Omaha

When making your way around Nebraska, it’ll be hard not to visit Omaha. Home to one of the world’s best zoos – Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium –, the Mormon Trail Center, and the first Latino art and history museum in the Midwest, El Museo Latino; the city is a playground for all. Omaha is continuously serving history, entertainment and adventure at every turn.

Chadron

This charming town welcomes visitors who are enticed by its history – a former fur-trading post. But most find themselves visiting this town due to its proximity to the great outdoors; Nebraska National Forest, Pine Ridge National Recreation Area, and Chadron State Park. Visit the Museum of Fur Trade or horseback through scenic terrain; either way, you’ll get lost in the beauty and history Chadron and its surrounding area have to offer.

Get outside

Niobrara National Scenic River

Float on down this 15-mile river that doesn’t hold back on the views, including that of Snake River Falls. Spring-fed, the falls do a magical dance of cascading over the cliffside rocks before making their way down into the river.

Toadstool Geologic Park

Receiving its name from its geological rock formations, Toadstool Geologic Park provides guests an experience that many call surreal. Still an active workshop for geologists and paleontologists who continue to study the earth’s history and previous occupants, the park also is open to hikers all year round. With trails to explore for a day visit or a campground for a more extended stay, Toadstool Geologic Park hosts beautiful terrain and information about life millions of years ago.

Things to do

  • We all need a little quickness in our lives, and one place to get your dose of that in Nebraska is at Carhenge. Inspired by England’s Stonehenge, Carhenge is a unique take on the world-famous attractions.
  • Built in 1886, the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park was the home of famed showman William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, who led the touring Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in the mid-1880s.
