Labor Day 2022 is on the horizon again, and this year, we’re off to celebrate it in New England! After all, the New England states are specialists in knowing how to revel over the Labor Day weekend.

As the last holiday this summer, why not spend some time relaxing on the fantastic New England beaches, seeking an action-packed weekend inland, or dining out on world-famous New England clam chowder. Whatever your preferences, we’ve picked our top five locations in the New England states to aim for this Labor Day 2022!

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

As the quintessential Labor Day 2022 destination, Cape Cod is a perfect location for this annual long weekend. We’d suggest kickstarting the weekend off with a bang and heading for the Hyannis Harbor Fireworks display and free concerts from 5pm onwards on Saturday, September 3rd.

If you’re open to exploring, why not jump on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It’s a fantastic way to explore the cape with its 25 miles of walking and bike trails. Take your time as you catch the multiple photogenic vistas you’ll pass through, including some of Cape Cod’s incredible forests, lakes, and beaches.

Family-friendly destinations such as the Cape Cod Inflatable Park can also keep the kids and the young at heart entertained for hours. After a day on the rides and in the wave pool, make sure you don’t miss out on Captain Parkers Pub’s New England clam chowder.

Plymouth, Massachusetts

Alternatively, take the chance this Labor Day weekend to visit one of New England’s most historic coastal towns. Plymouth is home to Plymouth Rock, famed as the landing site of the Mayflower and home to the first Pilgrim settlement back in 1620.

Stepping back in time, head down to the Plimoth Patuxet Museums to see how the seafaring Pilgrims created what many consider ‘America’s Hometown.’ Four hundred and two years later this Labor Day 2022, Plymouth still can fascinate kids and adults alike at the 17th Century English Village and Grist Mill. See first-hand how the Pilgrims traveled to America by stepping aboard the Mayflower II, a full-scale replica of the original pioneering tall ship.

No Plymouth Labor Day weekend would be complete without a wine tasting trip to the Plymouth Bay Winery before heading back to the harbor for a New England clam chowder dinner at the CabbyShack Fresh Seafood Restaurant.

Burlington, Vermont

If spending the weekend on the coast isn’t high on your list of priorities, head inland to the city of Burlington, adorning the shores of Lake Champlain. This picturesque Vermont city’s residents know precisely how to enjoy the Labor Day celebrations.

In fact, Labor Day 2022 marks the 100th Champlain Valley Fair, a ten-day festival running from August 26 until September 4 in Essex Junction, on the outskirts of Burlington. This year’s musical headliners include Scotty McCreery and Nelly, not to mention the onsite Demolition Derby and Monster Truck Shows.

For those seeking a more tranquil Labor Day 2022 in Burlington, we recommend a trip to the Absolute Wellness Healing Spa South Burlington. After all, why not end the summer in a state of serenity and wellbeing?

Stowe, Vermont

For those seeking an action-packed Labor Day 2022 weekend, then the town of Stowe sits high on our recommendations shortlist. Located at the foot of Vermont’s highest peak, Mount Mansfield, Stowe is traditionally a magnet for skiers and snowboarders during the winter, however it offers a host of summer outdoor activities, too.

Enjoy the scenic views with 18 holes of golf at the historic Stowe Country Club or Zip Line through the treetops with the award-winning Arbortrek Canopy Adventures. If you’d prefer to hit the water over the long weekend, head to Umiak Outdoor Outfitters for some lazy inner tubing or tranquil lake paddle boarding sessions.

The best part about staying in Stowe is that you’re just a stone’s throw away from the world’s most iconic ice cream parlor. For us, a Ben & Jerry’s factory tour is the best way to cool down after a solid day of adventuring.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Our fifth Labor Day 2022 suggestion is Portsmouth, located on the stunning New Hampshire coast, renowned for spectacular ocean beaches and traditional old-time buildings. Don’t miss out on Portsmouth’s terrific seafood and New England clam chowder while you’re in town by heading to the Surf Seafood Restaurant for an idyllic waterfront dining experience.

Sticking to a maritime theme, we think you should explore the insides of a US Navy submarine at the USS Albacore Submarine and Museum. Tour this incredible vessel’s interior and discover its history as a pioneering US Navy submarine, built to innovate and test many modern systems currently used in submarines today.

If staying dry isn’t on your bucket list, then Water Country Waterpark is a must-visit Labor Day activity. With over 26 acres of attractions and rides, including ‘Dr. Von Dark’s Tunnel of Terror’ and ‘Warp 8’ or the more sedate relaxing Activity Pool, there are hours of fun to be had for the whole family.
